It
is situated in Jodhpur. Rao Jodha built the fort in 1459 when he shifted his
capital from Mandore. The fort is situated about 400-ft above the city and
has 68-ft wide and 117-ft high walls, which dominates the surrounding plain.
Rao Jodha Singh from 1459 onwards constructed the palaces within the fort
area. The various palaces and buildings inside the fort now serve as
Mehrangarh museum. The Moti Mahal has stained glass windows that create a
colorful mosaic with the play of light and shade. Chandan Mahal, Darbar
Takhat or Throne Room, Rang Mahal and Umaid Vilas are must see for tourists.

Golden
fort or Sonar Kila - Jaisalmer - It is situated in Jaisalmer. Bhatti Chief
Jaisal laid the foundation of the fort in 1156 A.D on Trikuta hill. The fort
is also called Sonar Kila or Golden Fort because it is made up of yellow
sandstone and seems to ignite into a golden flame when scorched by the
desert sun. Even today, one fourth of the old city's population resides
within the fort. A cross-cultural merging of Rajput and Islamic
architectural styles is visible in this fort. Ganesh Pol, Akshya Pol, Suraj
Pol and Hawa Pol are must see for tourists. Jain temples built between 12th
to 15th centuries and dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Sambhavanthji is another
attraction.

Raja Rai Singh, Akbar's contemporary started building Junagadh Fort in 1587.

conquered. It consists of 37 palaces, pavilions and temples built by
different Kings stand protected by massive ramparts and round towers.
